The Drama Department encourages students to experiment with form and style in their performance work and give them the practical freedom to be creative in the use of the technical equipment.
At Key Stage 3, drama is taught in tutor groups. The emphasis is on providing a sound foundation in the basics of the subject and on fostering a sense of confidence and creativity. Students experiment with a wide range of concepts and techniques. They are introduced to work on character, and on narrative and physical skills.
We follow the AQA specification at GCSE, and students are assessed through practical coursework and a written paper. They study at least two plays, visit live productions and perform their practical work to an audience. There are alternative options for students who are interested in the technical side of the subject. Drama and Theatre Studies A level students are given the opportunity to explore the subject in far greater depth and develop their skills further.
In addition, the Drama department produces several plays each year, open to all students. These range from cultural classics to pantomime and are always very well received by audiences and enjoyed by those involved in the performance and production.
