One of our key objectives in teaching Physics is to instil an understanding of how beautiful the subject is. Once a student has an understanding of the fundamental rules of Physics, he or she can see how astonishingly simple laws explain how the universe works.
Key Stage 3 Physics follows the national curriculum and comes under the Combined Science course for Years 7 and 8. At GCSE, there is an option for students either to take Science and Additional Science, or to take Physics as a separate subject alongside Biology and Chemistry. Physics is also available as an A level course.
Physics covers a huge number of different topics. We start in Year 7 by burning fuels, and by the time we reach Year 13 we are using mathematical models to investigate the discharge of capacitors, for example.
The Physics department strives to be welcoming and friendly. There is always a member of staff available to help explain any aspect of the subject, to offer support with homework or to steer a particular interest.
